At Sierra Outdoor Center we are dedicated to making the world of river running available to everyone. One way we accomplish this is by offering students a wide selection of kayaks for instruction: from inflatable to sit-on-top to traditional "hard shell" kayaks. Inflatable and sit-on-tops are more stable than traditional river kayaks. They are easier to learn to handle and yet allow you to enjoy the freedom and exhilaration of kayaking during your first day on the water. For the more adventurous, hard shell kayaks offer the ultimate in performance and excitement, but require a greater investment in time and training before basic competency can be obtained.

   Classes start at approximately 9 am and finish around 6 pm. All river equipment except wetsuits and transportation to and from the river are included in the price. Farmer john wetsuits are available for rental for an additional $10. Students must bring their own lunch and water.

   Haven't you always wanted to try it? This 2-day class is structured to give you the necessary foundation to paddle Class II whitewater in hardshell kayaks. On Day 1, our helpful, experienced instructors will start you out on calm water learning the basic strokes and boat handling skills, such as eddy turns and ferrys. By Day 2, you'll amaze yourself with your progress as we review basic strokes and introduce new skills like scouting rapids and recognizing river features. Includes an afternoon run down some lively Class II whitewater.    This is a fun, half-day class for anyone who wants to learn how to paddle a kayak or canoe on lakes or slow moving rivers. You will learn basic strokes, safety and self-rescue skills for recreational paddling. Open to canoes, sit-on-tops & touring/recreational kayaks. Price: $49.
